Your Premiere Twin Cities Hydroponic And Organic Retailer
We are pleased to announce the newest member of our team –- Hydro. Hydro is a beta fish who is responsible for demonstrating the aquaponics part of our store.
Hydro loves his new job especially swimming in the newly formed roots from the basil plants he is providing nutrients to. Stop by and meet Hydro soon!
We are excited about the current grass roots movement towards growing green and sustainability that is currently occurring in the Twin Cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis.
With our short growing season here in Minnesota, we look forward to the opportunity to educate people on the basics of hydroponic and organic indoor gardening here at Roots Hydro-Organics.
Typically people have used soil to grow plants both indoors and outdoors but soil while the most familiar, is only one type of growth medium. Some other ways to grow plants include:
Hydroponics is a way to grow using water and nutrients without soil. Plants may be grown with their roots in water only or using an inert medium such as rocks, expanded clay, coco, mineral wool or perlite.
Aeroponics is the process of growing plants in air or mist and nutrients without the use soil or medium.
Aquaponics is a plant growing system that combines conventional aquaculture (raising aquatic animals such as fish) with hydroponics. This fish waste is processed by the hydroponic plants into nutrients. The waste removed from the water is then recirculated back to the aquaculture system.
We have developed a separate area in our store – the Knowledge Corner – where customers can learn the basics of growing hydroponically or aeroponically. We have displays showing how to get started by growing from organic seeds, how to choose the type of medium you will grow in, as well selecting the type of system including the appropriate grow lighting. Stop in to see our displays to see how you too can grow lettuce, herbs, tomatoes, root vegetables and flowers in your home or office.
